The Sex Pistols vrs. Richard Hell and The Voidoids...?
The big difference is The Voidoids were talented and experienced musicians. They were a truly great band.
And Richard, and the others well., Ivan and Quinn could actually write and construct great songs., with great lryics.
I do believe that MacLaren wanted the Pistols to write a "Blank Generation" type song., he was all bussiness,. he wanted a PUNK Monkees, he wanted to put together something he could sell besides his clothes., maybe he was frustrated from KILLING the NY Dolls. I think he fancied himself the Brian Epstien of PUNK
The Pistols don't seem too Bay City., werent they some bubble-gum pussy band?
I like that Thunders wrote in response to the whole Pistols 'thing' "Little London Boys", even though he did befriend and later play with some of them
As for Blank Generation, I dont think its at all about New York., and anyway I hate to break it to anyone that dosen't know this Richard didnt really come up with the song by himself,
He sorta "borrowed" some of it from a movie from the 50s called "Beat Generation" a movie about beatkniks and it had a title song and some of the words went "I belong to the beat generation and I can do what I want', something like that, the song, the original one, is in a documentry about life post war in the 50s in America based on
a book written by David Halberstien. But only that part when he gets into I was saying let (get?) me outta here ect thats all Richard.

but the Pistols abilities and almost everything are a joke next to The Voidoids. The Voidoids were a really great band, really dissapointing when they broke up.
