don't know if it's all rockandroll exactly, but as far as my local scene goes, that's where I've heard the best sounds this year - Friday night I had the extreme pleasure of witnessing The Console - then the equal pleasure of their massive bassist Anders sitting in with my group the next night on second bass - also with Neon Brown's excellent drummer Adrian Woods - Friday I also saw the smokin' groove band Atma, gettin' ready to tour CA - these bands are instrumental and improv based and can take you amazing places
For semi-rock-based guitar music we got Pawn Council who are massive and seamless, we got my own Th' Shank (no one knows how to describe us, but we've got the most earlypunk influence and probably the most late60s influence of nads in our circle - we do garagegroove, I guess, harmolodically), we got The Bond who are countrypunky with fuzztone banjo
