Well, this is our last night here in New York, and it has been a great city to be in. Did not go to CBGB's since i know only too well what it looks like. Did not stand outside Hell's house etc. i was interested in the comment about Manitoba's bar being (oh, i can't be bothered to read back and quote verbatim this time, but) some kind of nostalgia den for poseurs...i find it a very simple matter to transcend a few poseurs, and don't give a damn about that. Poseurs are everywhere: deal with it. Personally, i was very happy to be in a bar surrounded by iconic punk and pre-punk imagery from Mick Rock, Gruen, etc. etc. listening to X and drinking good glasses of booze. The whole Village has poseurs -not as many as one might think, but so what? Stay in? I don't think so. Let's not pretend that this bitter (and yet potentially fun) forum is not sustained by nostalgia and no little posing...which is in part why you can't ask a simple question anymore. Anyway, the Dictators are not a profound band (i don't own Go Girl Crazy, nor anything else of theirs, but know some of the material and was curious), nor are they always profoundly funny -although Master Race Rock is an amusing self-parody, complete with Ramonesque "let's go!" chanting, so interesting in the context of white-boy idiot punk...appropriately, they are like wrestling: idiotic, sometimes to laugh with, sometimes to laugh at, and sometimes not remotely funny and just plain sad. So, i guess no one else went???
As to my career: it's in progress, thank you, and when you are far too famous and busy to post here, then i wish you well. |
