maybe, better still

would be to bitch a little about Patti Smith, who doesn't deserve it, and whom I don't hate the way I hate Courtney Love. I seem to have lost my powers of copying and pasting, globally, on my PC, which is fucking disturbing when you work on your computer for your money, but I was going to quote the thing about the overwritten Smith piece, because it's a pretty good summary of what I always thought about that myself. I'm not a big Patti Smith fan, and I've said it before here on this very forum, but with taxes calling, and the need to ignore their ugly voice, I thought I'd take a moment to repeat myself. I will admit to appreciating her, to having enjoyed a concert I went to and catching the weird raw energy of it, but to a large degree she bothers me. Just rubs me the wrong way. My personal evaluation of her is that usually she strikes me as obnoxiously pretentious, as overreached, rock-god or not. I'll take Hell's philosophical rants any day over Smith's, for style and tone and everything.
There was also something in here about how you actually read the piece in roy's link, MD, and I haven't even read it yet myself, and think I'll do that now so I can maybe contribute to any vaguely engaging conversation about it. I bring this up to encourage anyone else to make direct comments on the piece if they have them? Ginger made a salient point about your post seeming like something that might go better in an e-mail to Richard, but then again, whether the style offends or engages, I appreciate anyone giving some feedback and thinking discussion on this forum about stuff Richard writes. I otherwise was too lazy and tired to follow the more cryptic parts of these posts. All I know this moment is that everyone's a critic, and I certainly am one tonight. I'll go read that now and maybe come back with something half-witted to contribute.
Murray is running a fun little contest on his hands across your face site, which is for people to write in about what band they love so much they'd like to manage, and is giving away a CD of The Independents (Joey-Ramone-managed) to the person who writes the most engaging and enthusiastic thing. I guess. Anyway, I thought it was pretty good clean fun, and thought some people here might as well. I hope I'll win, but then, I always hope I'll win. |
