hEll's pieCe is subverted by the arrogance of the arTisT whose prejudices see a moral superiority
in the artist who CREATES while the critic merely
REACTS.
This negates the power of Bang's oeuvre, which constitutes some of the most vital compelling WRITING
anywhere.Bang's atmospherics were of such a pure and cosmic impressionism that the intended target(artist)
of his reviews could not be anything but confounded.
I have always mistrusted Eddie Vedder and the whole Nirvana-Lite posture, but I think he is right when
his response to a query about what a certain song was "about" revolved around his assertion that he didn't want to spoil the experience of the song for the listener by limiting it to his thoughts about the song. Transgressive Art takes on a life of its own,
unencumbered by the petty prejudices of the perpetrator
Patti and Hell have always spoken directly to me as well as countless others. I have always thrilled to the way they turned themselves inside out in such a compelling manner. Bangs did the same thing, just with a different stimulative launching point which Hell and Patti have shown themselves not to be capable of.
Thats O.K. Theres a reason you probably have never heard of Lester's band Birdland.
I was just sad to see Richard act as the "Journey" of
rock critics by using the shorthand throwaway cliche
of critics in using derivative influences (Miles, Stones) as a way of description.
