like tonight, I wasted my time watching Smithereens again! No, seriously: I haven't seen that movie in about 6 years, I think, probably about exactly, and it was both fun to watch again and of course also just depressing as fuck. But it inspired me to do a little poll on the forum, which I expect only about one or two people to vote in, but whatever, which was to ask what people's favorite scene in that movie is. What an awful sentence! Let's begin again:

What, oh fan of Richard Hell (this means you), is your favorite scene in Smithereens?

My vote: The whore with the rotten sandwich who just climbs into Paul's van. His feigning of eating the sandwich, the genius of the whore, who, I am thinking (please jump in here, cognoscenti) I had heard was actually a whore and not an actor at all... it's always been one of the more memorable scenes to me of any movie. I think it's up above the scene in spanking the monkey where the aunt screams, crying, "YOU SAID I HAVE A FAT MOUTH!"

The other thing I wanted to say about that movie is that, if I ever had another wedding, the dream entertainment would be Richard Hell singing "All the Way". For all I care, he could just be a guest, standing with a glass of water in the corner, singing it under his breath, but that is definitely my second favorite scene, that rummaging-in-the-fridge-singing-torch-songs part.
