Well, alright, The Miller's Tale is not unremittingly embarassing, but it is fine evidence that some people should just not wear berets and make solo albums...There are some great guitar solos on the first cd -the live recordings- but Verlaine sings dreadfully, devoid of any purpose. The solo studio work on the second cd is often vainglorious and laboured. Furthermore, if you are unfortunate enough to read the liner notes, you will come across a line so ugly, so pretentious that it makes my skin crawl to quote it, but, take it away Mr. Clinton Heylin "...from then on it's an uncut slowburn as the set builds to crescendo x J. when J=Verlaine and Jazzmaster at optimum output. Hey, don't take my word for it. Just hit play."
FUCKING HELL, CLINTON!!!!
Well, you could buy it, but...
Maybe the deksam cixelsyd eno was being all arch and sarcastic about the guitar playing, who knows? who cares? Tom Verlaine is a great guitar player, particularly for not being a macho prick about it. But has he made a great record after Adventure? No. |
