everyone seems frozen in place. I keep getting really scary reports of coldness from friends in Boston. I hate ultra-freezing weather. Wind in oklahoma made it far worse in the winter than the year I spent in Austria, and I had to learn about hats and gloves and stuff... But those things don't do much good in 70 mph wind, anyway. Perhaps I exaggerate, but it is an exact figure that's springing to mind. it actually froze the lock on my apartment door one winter. I remember it was during finals, and my birthday, and I went to the management and was told to heat my key with a cigarette lighter or a match... This meaning, stand outside in the north-south breezeway and maintain a flame [in 70 mph] wind, keep key warm between flame and lock, not to mention operate your fingers at all... I had to stay at a friends and just sit it out. I just remember feeling defeated and beaten down by the weather all the time, and thankful as hell that I had an all-wheel-drive vehicle because of the constantly icy roads. and thankful to get out of OK, finally... stay toasty...
