Remembering Bob Quine

Although a fan of his brilliant guitar playing since 'Blank Generation,' I never had an extended conversation with Bob until three or four years ago. Occasionally I'd send him CD reissues from Sony Music, he'd call to thank me--and these calls would evolve into lengthy conversations that were equal parts diatribe, reminiscence, black humor, and fan rave (cf. James Burton's playing with Ricky Nelson)...After I sent Bob a copy of The Miles Davis Quintet/Live at the Plugged Nickel (recorded 1965), he told me he'd been there for two nights of Miles' run!
I'll never forget the times I saw him play with Richard Hell, Lou Reed, even a one-off gig with Deadline (with Bill Laswell and the late Philip Wilson). He wouldn't want to hear it, but: Thank you, Bob Quine. |
