pilgrimage to quine stomping grounds

Traveled up to NYC this weekend on business, stopped in at Subterranean Records and Carmine Street Guitars. Talked to Michael Carlucci and Rick Kelly...both of them told me "Quine stopped in here every day." Felt really sad I didn't know this earlier, and that I never got a chance to tell him how much his solo on "Home of the Brave" (Legendary Hearts) meant to me. Even though I know he hated the mix that Lou put out.
I'm not sure what's become of quine's musical belongings, but wouldn't it be a wonderful memorial if some bootlegers got a hold if his work on the 1980 Eno sessions, and on the alternate mix for Legendary Hearts? Or anything he happened to record at home.
Quine apparently died thinking that he was washed up and forgotten. He was wrong about that. Let's hope that at least someone cares enough to get Escape and Basic reissued on CD in his memory. |
