I was taken in by Lizzie and Michel Esteban in the summer of '77 and they were very kind to me, while I was trying to get on my feet in NY as a songwriter, singer and guitarist.
I didn't last in NY too long in '77, but she was very kind to me. I just found out about her passing and am saddened by the memory that she was such a beautiful, warm and creative person.
I wrote a song at that time which has been one of my best loved songs, throughout my career, that was very influenced by the times we were all together called "Blow Your Life Away".
I also would like to take this time to pay tribute to Richard Hell, who was a huge influence on my work. Lizzie took me back stage after one of his shows at CBGBs and I was completely messed up and probably hugely obnoxious.
I've done "You Gotta Lose", "Blank Generation" and his sound and that of Robert Quine were a big influence on mine. I was in NY last year to play a few shows and have a new CD coming out on a label there and hope to get a chance to see him perform or make an event of his.
