Serendipity - and an R. Hell quote

A couple of days ago I downloaded a copy of the Channel Four documentary on the Velvet Underground, Curious, via BitTorrent.
As is often my wont, I did some Google searching while I watched and came across some pages that mentioned The Quine Tapes which I had heard of but never knew the story behind - or how much of a huge VU fan Robert Quine was.
Imagine my shock to go from those sites to a news site immediately thereafter and see Robert Quine dead at 61 right on the main page!
I don't know his work much beyond Blank Generation and a vague recollection of hearing Blue Mask at some point, but nevertheless, any time one of your Punk heroes/peers passes, it is time for contemplation and sometimes one wonders just where all the time has gone these last 25+ years (I'm 45).
As part of that contemplation, a great quote (I should note here that I have a notoriously poor memory, and could hardly quote 5 quotes from memory, but this one really stuck in my mind) from Richard (from the Epilogue DVD extra of The Sex Pistols' Filth And The Fury film) seems apropos:
It seems to me like the dividing line, kinda, between being a kid and being an adult is that when you are a kid, you want to impose yourself on the world and change the world to be like you, and be congratulated for being yourself.
The other side of that line is you realize that the world itself is interesting, and you should take a look, instead of wanting it to pay attention at you.
R.I.P., Bob Quine. (And thanks, Richard, for that quote - I wish I had the ability to say something as profound-yet-simple as that.)
