"Kid with the Replaceable Head"

Hi Frank,
"The Kid With the Replaceable Head" was recorded twice by Richard Hell and the Voidoids. The first version was released as a 45" UK single in 1979 and was produced by Nick Lowe - it also features an otherwise unavailable version of "I'm Your Man" on the b-side. The track was re-recorded for the DESTINY STREET lp in 1982.
DESTINY STREET is easy to find on CD. However, I think the original 45 is a superior recording - see my raving review at www.richardhell.com/cgi-bin/forum/showmessage.asp?messageID=542 but unfortunately it has yet to appear on CD. For what it's worth, I think the version heard in Smithereens (which came out in 1982) is the original, but my memory might betray me.
Copies of DESTINY STREET (which is a great album regardless) should be at a record store near you; copies of the original Nick Lowe-produced 45 pop up on Ebay and GEMM.com all the time.
Hope this helps!
--Philip
